Job Description

The Safety Technician implements and supports JMS safety initiatives to reduce accidents, occupational injuries and exposure to health hazards. This role includes completing daily inspections, reporting and modeling and enforcing safety protocols and best practices to promote a culture of safety and prevent accidents and injuries on the job site.   

Essential Duties

  • Serve as a leader of job site safety, demonstrating JMS beliefs and commitment to safety, functioning as a team player and fostering trust and communication
  • Assist in the development, implementation and improvement of effective site safety plans, policies and procedures
  • Perform and document job site safety inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards
  • Implement S.L.A.M. methodology. Stop Look Assess Manage
  • Participate incident investigations, including complete and comprehensive reports of findings
  • Assist with job site orientations and CORE training for new employees
  • Deliver safety toolbox talks and safety topic training for all JMS employees
  • Attend and participate in safety meetings and plan of day (POD) meetings
  • Report all incidents, near misses, safety infractions, policy violation and concerns to management in a timely manner
  • Maintain site first aid and emergency response supplies
  • Support emergency response preparedness, coordinate and participate in drills
  • Transport injured employees for treatment and testing when needed
  • Prepare, implement and enforce Pre-Task Plans (PTPs) and Activities Hazard Analysis (AHAs)
  • Conduct and document job site safety observations
  • Understand and ensure compliance with federal, state and local safety regulations, OSHA/MSHA standards and relevant environmental regulations
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; technical certification in occupational safety preferred
  • OSHA 30 – Required
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in construction or industrial safety

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong commitment to safety and strict adherence to safety protocols
  • OSHA training and knowledge of state, federal and local safety regulations
  • Understanding of OSHA regulations and hazard recognition, record keeping and injury management skills
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record (clear MVR) to be able to operate a company vehicle
  • Ability to travel to job sites across North America as required, up to 80% of the time
  • Strong observational and problem solving skills
  • Physical ability to pass tower climbing fit for duty physical, including general ability to climb ladder systems, carrying tools and equipment and meet OSHA weight requirements of 250-300 pounds (as determined by weight limits for ladders and rigging harnesses).
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with diverse project teams.

Work Environment:

  • This is a site-based role and includes work performed at heights (300 feet), confined spaces and in all weather conditions and may include exposure to dust, fumes and loud noises.
  • On-site work requires adherence to safety regulations and Company policies.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks, including climbing ladders, kneeling, and standing or walking 8-10 hours per day.
  • Travel to various JMS jobsite locations may be required with limited notice
